Weekend In Black & White : 13 # Vashigaon Subway

VASHI GAON SUBWAY
This is the new subway on the Sion Panvel highway near Vashi village (Vashi gaon). Still under construction and not officially open, we decided to cross the highway from this subway below.
The subway connects Vashi gaon to the fishermen village area, near the old Shiv temple all the way to Sagar Vihar, where I clicked my best sunset so far.

This is when I convinced hubby and Krrish to come along for a photography adventure in the interior and unexplored areas of Vashi, and thats how I got my last month's theme photo of the fishing boats in the sea, near the fishermen village.

Hubby and Krrish were tired of wandering in the sun, and hungry too. See how they were making funny actions and gestures in the subway so that I stop clicking or get a funny photo in the end.

ABC Wednesday - 'C' for Central Park

Central Park at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai is a huge park filled with landscaped gardens, an artificial pond with a fountain, an amphitheatre, musical and dance sculptures, jogging track and also children's park. With ample parking space and fresh clean air away from the city pollution, it will be the 3rd largest park in Asia after it is fully developed.

This fountain in the artificial pond is one of the many fountains here, and it looks much prettier when lighted after dark.

ABC Wednesday - 'B' for Baker's Haven

'Heeramani Packaging' in Vashi is a Baker's Haven for home bakers in Navi  Mumbai. Whether you are a beginner or expert in baking, you will get all that you may be looking for making your cakes and chocolates.

From baking pans, tins and cupcake pans in aluminium, non-stick steel and silicone, cupcake liners, cookie cutters, chocolate moulds and wrappers, cake decoration supplies like fondant tools, piping nozzles and bags, whisks and mats, cookie cutters, cake stand and weighing scales, cooling racks, measuring spoons and cups, fancy packaging for cakes, cupcake and chocolates and more.......,

Also edibles like chocolate slabs, chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder, essences, sprinklers, heavy cream....

I started baking a year back and have got all my supplies from here. I didn't even know the names of equipment properly, and didnt have a proper list of the essentials. I was properly guided here and got my beginner's essentials and there's no looking back since then.

The highlights are that you get 'All Under One Roof' with prompt and friendly service. Here's a product list I grabbed from their Facebook page for the benefit of bakers who are looking for resources in Navi Mumbai.

Our World Tuesday # 18 Just Chill

JUST CHILL :-)
Cool, isn't he?
Guess where we spotted him? Actually, I must confess that Krrish spotted him outside Rude Lounge near Inorbit Mall in Vashi, and suggested the photo for 'Our World Tuesday' as amidst the chaos Inorbit mall and Vashi station, he looks like he has found a corner to chill out and relax in his 'Own World'.

Here's how he lay relaxing outside Rude Lounge.

Our World Tuesday # 17 Cyber Safe

Cyber Safe by Maharashtra Police
The last week of December was declared Cyber Safe week by Maharashtra State police and these banners were put up everywhere for public awareness.
This step is appreciated by residents of Navi Mumbai as many parents are not internet savvy but not even using computers and internet especially moms, and unable to guide the teenagers or keep an eye on their internet activities.

Skywatch Friday 2014 - 2 : Towers of Doom

Electromagnetic radiation from mobile phone towers installed on tops of residential buildings can pose a major health hazard for residents living within 300 m range, especially pregnant women and children and those living in the top floors of the building.
The residents show symptoms like memory loss, lack of concentration, headache, mood swings and hormonal imbalance. They also have greater risk of developing cancer. The radiation causes insects, bees, butterflies, sparrows and pigeons in the vicinity to disappear.

Is it ignorance of the consequences, or greed for money that the towers end up getting installed on so many residential buildings?
Is there a 'Tower of Doom' in your area?

ABC Wednesday - ' V ' for Variety of Namkeen / Farsan

A huge 'Variety' of these fresh fried snacks popularly called 'Farsan' or 'Namkeen' of different tastes, shapes and flavours are very popular in Mumbai. They could be of Maharashtrian or Gujarati origin or even from North or South India.

Here they are sold loose by weight. One can even taste before buying them.
In many localities, the 'farsan' vendors sell the freshly packed  'farsan' at our doorstep. Our kids eagerly wait every Thursday for their favourite 'namkeen wala uncle' (means- uncle who gets lots of  'namkeen') and are eager to try something new each time. They are popular snacks for the school 'short break'.

December 2014 CDP Monthly Theme : WORKER

The City Daily Photo Theme for December is 'Worker'.

Workers pulling a heavily loaded wooden handcart with vegetables at the wholesale fruit and vegetable market known as the APMC (Agriculture Produce Market Committee) in Vashi.

APMC is the largest government regulated agriculture produce market in Asia. Over 25,000 handcart and headload workers (locally also called 'Hamaal'), whose work is to load and unload from 15 to 20 hrs, 6 days a week, are the lifeline of this market.
Though not all are seen with smiling faces as these two,
I salute the spirit of these workers.

Click here to see more 'WORKERS' from contributors all over the world.

This is also the comeback post of Mumbai Daily Snapshot after 5 years.
We will continue to post one photo a day and make an honest effort to show around our city.
Thank you for your visit. Please leave your valuable comments and suggestions.

Rickshaw Stand

Now its easy for commuters to spot a rickshaw stand from a distance, especially if they are new to the area. These signs have been installed all over Navi Mumbai at all rickshaw stands, and should be seen in Mumbai too, very soon.
Till now, many rickshaw stands had no sign, and could be identified as rickshaw stand, only because we know it's there, or because we see a number of autorickshaws queued up there.
This stand is right opposite Millennium Towers, Sanpada which alone has a residential population of over 5000 people.
