The City Daily Photo Theme for December is 'Worker'.
Workers pulling a heavily loaded wooden handcart with vegetables at the wholesale fruit and vegetable market known as the APMC (Agriculture Produce Market Committee) in Vashi.
APMC is the largest government regulated agriculture produce market in Asia. Over 25,000 handcart and headload workers (locally also called 'Hamaal'), whose work is to load and unload from 15 to 20 hrs, 6 days a week, are the lifeline of this market.
Though not all are seen with smiling faces as these two,
I salute the spirit of these workers.

This is also the comeback post of Mumbai Daily Snapshot after 5 years.
We will continue to post one photo a day and make an honest effort to show around our city.
Thank you for your visit. Please leave your valuable comments and suggestions.
Glad to see you back blogging again. I wonder how many markets like this you have in Mumbai?
ReplyDeleteThanks Stefan. Mumbai has many markets. APMC market is one of its kind here. I will show you'll all of them soon :-)
ReplyDeleteThey appear to be working very hard. That's quite a load of vegetables!
ReplyDeleteOh yes
DeleteI saw bigger loads but couldn't capture as they were busy speeding with the loads, or even speak to anyone because of the hustle and bustle in the morning busy hours.
Welcome back, you posts have been missed. I took a break myself, but not for as long. Great shot to comeback with.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. My son was too young to be carried around while taking pics, and I didn't have suitable options to leave him behind. I tried but he was priority. Now he is 9 and wants the Sunday photo and description on the blog to be his contribution.
DeleteHow fast time flies a day kids grow up! :-)
youd be fit with a job like that :)
ReplyDeleteinteresting post and thanks for visiting my blog :)

ReplyDeleteThese are very interesting workers to see. The work looks very hard.
