Simply Mumbai - 1 : Seasonal Fruit - Guava
Winter brings these delicious guavas to Mumbai markets. Guava is locally known as 'peru' and comes in the white and pink flesh types. The skin, seeds and flesh are all edible. An excellent source of vitamin C, guavas are great for the skin. This pink variety tastes the same as the white one, but looks prettier and more tempting, especially when cut in this ziz-zag manner.
You will see many fruit vendors selling them in fruit baskets by the roadside, in Mumbai.

Grapes
Grapes are a rich source of nutrients. They are high in phytonutrients, antioxidants and they have ellagic acid, a powerful antioxidant good for arteries that helps decrease inflammation.
Reseachers comparing diets in Western countries have discovered that although thew French tend to eat higher levels of animal fat, surrprisingly the incidence of heart disease remains low in France. Scientists believe the reason is the greater consumption of red wine in France.
Something in grapes helps to reduce cholesterol levels in the body and thus slows the buildup of deposits in the arteries. Compounds such as resveratrol, discovered in grapes, have been positively linked to fighting cancer, hearyt disease, degenerative nerve disease, arthritis and other ailments.

Apples and Sweet Limes
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. True, no fats and cholesterol and lots of fibre helps keep your heart healthy and maintain healthy blood pressure.
Check out ALL ABOUT APPLES.
On the other hand, sweet lime juice cures throat infections and helps lose weight too.
I love eating fruits. But my son Krrish still rejects fruits. He can gulp down a 200ml pack of Tropicana mixed fruit juice in a minute but eating fruits is a no-no.
How about you? Do you love eating fruits?

Crawford Market
Crawford Market (officially Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Market) is one of South Mumbai's most famous markets. It's a blend of Flemish and Norman architecture. It is named after Arthur Crawford, the first Municipal Commissioner of the city. The market is situated opposite the Mumbai Police headquarters, just north of Victoria Terminus (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus now) railway station at a busy intersection.
The market houses a wholesale fruit, vegetable and poultry market. One end of the market is a pet store. Most of the sellers inside the market nowadays sell imported food items. It was the main wholesale market for fruits in Mumbai until March 1996, when the wholesale traders were relocated to Navi Mumbai (New Bombay).
After India's independence, the market was renamed after Maharashtrian social reformer, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule.
Crawford Market also refers to the immediate surrounding areas. Here you can shop till you drop.
