The under-construction educational institution building opposite my house has almost been completed. The interiors were completed in time for the current academic year, and college has begun. The workers in the picture are completing the exteriors of the building. If you noticed in my under-construction photos, most construction site workers here do not use sufficient security measures while working on the site. Some are not provided with, and others are comfortable working without the gear, making it a high-risk job.
This is yesterday morning's photo. It was drizzling in the morning hours. Many people came out shopping for the daily essentials like bread, vegetables and fruits. But the sky is still cloudy and I doubt it won't rain heavily. The mountains seen from my window are full of greenery and tiny streams of water can be seen flowing down the mountains. I will show you the green mountains tomorrow.
After a three week break, monsoon returns to mumbai. We had almost started missing the rain. So Friday evening brought us rains and storm and it continues.
Another photo of the kids at the traffic signal. Seeing them I sometimes think that children at the orphanage have better chances of a good future than these children who are not orphans, but guided by their parents to beg for a living.
Krrish's doctor Dr. Aparna has advised me to buy him not only toys but books too. She says after every toy I buy, the next purchase should be a book. She says that coz books are our friends and he will never feel lonely even without us.
These are Krrish's first books that I got for him from the book fair. We started with 'Bumpy The Bear'. He loves to look at the pictures while I read out to him and also add my own words for him to understand better. He wants to start again as soon as we finish the book once, and this goes on till I get him something else to play with.
The book fair is right opposite the Center One mall and has a wide variety of books at great prices. I picked up a good number of children books for Krrish and my 3 year old niece Anshi.
Center One, Navi Mumbai's first mall is all about shopping, entertainment, food and leisure. The mall was conceptualized by RTKL, USA, one of world's best design houses with long-standing experience in designing and executing malls, and constructed by Trafalgar House, UK. The Dollar Shop, Food Bazar, Benzer (Men), Lilliput, Pantaloons, Hakoba, Sayonara, Roop Sangam are a few of the outlets it boasts of. The Level 3 is dedicated to the Food Court which has food outlets offering the widest variety of cuisine in any mall. It has rightly been promoted as 'Mall For All'.
The group of men, women and children at the Vashi Station traffic signal are regulars here. They make a daily living by begging. Most of them beg for money. The parents encourage the children to beg, as many people are empathetic towards children begging on the streets. I carry a few packs of glucose biscuits when I'm out shopping, and give them to the children. After seeing the movie Traffic Signal, I got to know about beggar mafia so I hesitate to help these beggars with money.
What do you think of them? Traffic Signal by Madhur Bhandarkar is a must watch for those who want to know about the unseen and unspoken reality of life in Mumbai.
Jeetu took the photo of this painting and two more at Krrish's Godma's(my cousin Chanda) house. Her hubby bought the painting from Nairobi. Originally there were two African black women in the painting in place of these Indian women. They got a close friend, a good painter to paint the Indian women in place of the African women.
I think it is beautiful. If I hadn't mentioned it, no one would have guessed it
If you are in Mumbai, visit the Big Max Sale at the Palm Beach Galleria in Navi Mumbai. The Big Max Sale is on. If you are looking for style within Rs.599 plus the sale offer for not only menswear and womenwear (and jewellery you can't miss) but also kids wear, this is the place to be. Besides Pantaloons at Center One (the first mall in Navi Mumbai), this is the only place in Navi Mumbai I can vouch for style.Krrish's birthday wear was also Max.
This photo has been taken from the Mumbai Pune Highway. Turn left here and you are in the Vashi node of Navi Mumbai. The complex in the photo is Vashi Plaza, an important landmark.
Vashi Plaza is a commercial complex right at the entry to Vashi. It is in Sector-17 of Vashi, which is the commercial heart of Vashi hosting small businesses, offices, clinics, banks and retail outlets.
I've not been able to go out much this week, so this photo is of last month, when I visited Dadar. I like the colourful clothes. The shops selling kid's clothes make maximum sales and profit in this area.
The newly constructed towers in the picture are on Palm Beach Road of Navi Mumbai, where real estate prices are booming. This view of the towers and the pyramid in the centre of my complex is from outside my apartment on the third floor.
The rains and winds continue to uproot plants and trees. Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have experienced heavy rains and flooding this weekend. More photos of rains this week.
The color red brings to many Indian minds, the picture of a beautiful Indian bride, dressed in a red outfit and bridal finery. I couldn't photograph an Indian bride in red, but came across this photo of my mom-in-law, dressed in red for the Karva Chauth pooja. Hindu women observe this fast as they believe it ensures prosperity and longevity of their husbands.
'Maa' would always love to dress in red on Karva Chauth day. She loved being photographed on this day, every year. In this photo, she finally wore the best dupatta for her dress. You can see a few other dupattas in the photo which she tried on till she was sure she wanted to wear this one. With her red bindi, red glass bangles and gold jewellery, she was ready to go for the pooja.
