Nariman Point is the business hub of Mumbai. Named after Khurshid Nariman, a Bombay Municipal Corporation corporator, it has the distinction of having a world record high price of an apartment sold for 8.62 million (USD), at an astonishing $2488 (Rs.97,842) per square foot. (Stats from Wikipedia).Nariman Point is located on land reclaimed from the sea. It has some of India's premier business houses such as Air-India, Indian Express, Mittal Towers, LIC...
The average property cost and rentals per sq. feet in Nariman Point are about 1.5 times higher than Manhattan in New York.
Incredible for reclaimed land to be bearing so much tonnage. The skyhigh rents support it.
ReplyDeleteI guess I won't be moving to Nariman Point anytime soon. I couldn't afford 60 square feet.
ReplyDeleteAn Arkie's Musings
Great post.
ReplyDeleteYikes I think that's a bit out of my price range!! Excellent N post.
ReplyDeleteYour business district is impressive by the shape and size of the buildings.
ReplyDeleteReally like the perspective.Good capture.
ReplyDeleteThat is an incredible amount of money for the footage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty picture. Hope you have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is pricey real estate!
ReplyDeleteNow that is expensive!
ReplyDeleteI guess I will have to continue living here in my house in Canada.
I can't afford to move to Nariman Point.
Bear((( )))
Geez, and I thought it was expensive here in Fairfield County just outside of New York. I really like your blog, thanks
ReplyDeletethe price is as high as the towering skyscrapers!
ReplyDeletelovely pic..
I love the Nariman Point... and especially at night the lights render it an elegant feel.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I can't imagine ANY apartment being worth that kind of money. It's truly amazing how much money some people have... and how little others have.
ReplyDeleteYour picture brought back fond memories to me. I once attended a Parsi wedding here....and at night it looked awesome. Lovely picture.
ReplyDeleteThank You for viewing my blog & also sharing us your world...beautiful!.
ReplyDeleteNo food today?
ReplyDeleteThe office and housing space in Mumbai sounds very expensive indeed. Do you get salary 'weighting' to compensate for that, as some do in London?
And as I read your interesting post, your country's amazing moon mission is on the news here in my front room :)
ReplyDeleteThose are very impressive buildings.
ReplyDeleteCertainly not the India of my childhood dreams (1931 on)! I can't afford you!
ReplyDeleteGulp. That IS pricey.
ReplyDeleteWho can afford it?
Only the rich and the famous can afford it, but they too prefer western suburbs like Bandra & Juhu which are not as pricey as Nariman Point. Most of the movie stars live in the western suburbs.
ReplyDeleteMost of Mumbai is still middle class and not as pricey as Nariman Point though property rates have increased many-fold in the last five years.
Bear Naked, Jay, Rinkly Rimes, Kim:
Mumbai is still very much an affordable place to visit, explore and even settle down forever.
And as far as I know, most of india is not as expensive as Mumbai.
So let the pricey Nariman Point not put you off.
Welcome to my India and I'm sure you will love it.
Good evening, Anu,
ReplyDeleteI have joined in helping Denise Nesbitt out with ABC Wednesday and am here in an 'official capacity' to thank you for joining the throng of Abeeseers each week. It is much appreciated.
