Saturday Photohunters Theme: SAD

This is a common sight in Mumbai city, but most people in the city are used to ignore the sight of people living- eating, washing, bathing and sleeping on the pavement. The three women in the picture were sound asleep, and their small children were playing nearby.
Some of them sell articles at the traffic lights, some beg to live, and some are construction site workers on daily wages, but 'Home' is a distant dream for them.
The 'SADDEST' part of this 'SAD' scene where I took the photo is that it was less than a 5 minute from Infiniti Mall, and very close to Juhu Scheme, where many Bollywood celebrities reside. They are everywhere we pass by, but we cannot do much except giving some food and clothes occasionally.
It wouldn't be fair to blame the state government, with the thousands pouring into the city everyday, hoping to make a living in the 'City of Dreams'

  3. That is very sad. I feel sad for the homeless everywhere but I know some areas have an enormous problem with it and it's hard at times to find solutions.

  5. I've been travelling through Delhi, Agra and all of Rajasthan, I've seen some of this breaking heart scenes... The worst is knowing there is no short time solution for those people. I've found a great difference in the south but, in such a beautiful country, it is a pitty not everyone can have a more dignified life...
It is very good that you remember us all how some do strugle for a living.

  6. I see this often in third world countries in Asia. It's sadder when people become callous to their situation.

  7. Your post is amazingly similar to mine the the disparity of the rich vs. the poor I know most of us find a place somewhere in the middle and thrive will those impoverished ever thrive? Do hand outs help ? What is the difference in a hand up? Are jobs the answer? Affordable housing -?- these situations lay heavily on my heart

  10. This is indeed sad. Hilda at "My Manila" just had a similar post. That people will do these things just to continue living, even if my other standards this is barely living, is testimony to how we are created with a strong will to live, no matter how adverse the conditions.
