Infiniti Mall in Andheri is a popular hangout among youth, kids and elders alike.
My favourite mall is Inorbit in Malad, but I  visited this mall on Saturday with mom, and my li'l boy to purchase groceries from the Food Bazar store here.

They manage to attract crowds all the time, by hosting different events. Here they are  having a kinda football competition. I mean one will defend the goal and the  other will try to make a goal. I  couldn't find out much as my li'l boy was fast asleep in my arm soon after we finished our shopping in Food Bazar.

Saturday Photohunters Theme: VIEW

View from Kate's Point

Kate's point in Mahabaleshwar (the nearest hill station to Mumbai) is named after Kate, the daughter of Sir John Malcolm, the founder of Mahabaleshwar during the British Raj. It is a huge rock which stands 50 m high.

Echo point is close to Kate's Point. Kate's point offers a breathtaking view of the Krishna valley. From the southern side, it looks like an elephant's head.

Balcony in Millennium Towers

Beautifully arranged flower pots in the safety grill of this balcony are very much in  contrast to the untidy arrangements I posted in my last Odd Shot.

Saturday Photohunters Theme : ROAD

This is the Juinagar Foot Over Bridge in Navi Mumbai near Juinagar Railway Station.
It was constructed by SPACPL, who received the Most Outstanding Bridge National Award (Aesthetics), Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers, 1997, for this bridge.
This octagonal-section twin-arch reinforced concrete pedestrian foot-bridge spans 65m across the Sion-Panvel Expressway, near Juinagar Railway Station.

Short flights of steps near the start of each ramp, and climbing up the arch profile on either side of the horizontal, are intended to discourage motor-cyclists from riding over the ramps and the bridge.

Juinagar Foot Over Bridge

The bridge you see in the photo is the Juinagar Foot Over bridge over the National Highway 4.
I have taken the photo from Juinagar Railway Station Complex. The bridge is hidden by trees and I could not get a view of the full bridge.
I will show you the same bridge in tomorow's Skywatch Friday & Saturday's Photohunt-Road.

ABC Wednesday - 'I' for Idlis

Idlis are steamed rice cakes made of rice and fermented lentil batter, served with sambar or chutney (which are South Indian dips). They are popular on the breakfast table and also as a light snack in India, in not just South Indian homes.

Millennium Towers Complex

This is one of the many views I have posted of Millennium Towers Complex in Sanpada.  The buildings you see here are Millennium Towers B-type, which are smaller apartments than the A-type. The gate on the  right side bottom of the picture  is  the Millennium Towes A-type gate.
If you look carefully, the bus-stop is at equal distance from both the complexes. On the right  is  the shopping complex, which has shops for essentials like grocery shop, laundry, doctor's clinic, vegetable shop...

Weekend Snapshot: Modaks

Modaks are Indian sweets, offered to Lord Ganesha during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Modaks (originally sweet stuffed rice flour dumplings) are Lord Ganesha's favourite. So, modaks made of mawa(dried milk made by evaporating  full cream milk) are prepared and moulded in this particular shape.

We spend this weekend visiting Ganesh Chaturthi mandaps put up all over the city and eating modaks.

Have a great weekend, all !

Saturday Photo Hunters Theme: WILD

WILD CROWD

Wild crowd trying to get into/get out of the train at Kurla station.

The commuters pounce into the train even before it has halted, with little thought for others around them. There is a mad rush to get in, even if it means shoving the fellow commuter out of the  train.

If you are at the station for the first time, make sure you avoid peak hours. People hanging  out of the train at the door is a common sight even during non-peak hours. If you manage to set your feet on the train, it is important to squeeze yourself inside enough to be safe.

Green Ganesha

This year's Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is more eco-friendly.

Traditionally, clay was used to make the Ganesha idols. Over the years, plaster of paris and dyes containing toxic chemicals like mercury, cadmium, arsenic, lead and carbon have been used.

Plastic & thermocol accessories used to decorate the idols are not biodegradable, hence toxic. These are also immersed in water.
After immersion of idols, the rise in acidity and toxins in water kill the plant and animal life in the water. Dead fish is washed ashore Mumbai beaches after the festival.

Contamination of water is worse and unimaginable in lakes and ponds. People using water polluted by the immersions can experience lung infection and diseases of skin, blood and eyes.

This year, artificial ponds and huge concrete water tanks have been made for the purpose, and people are being encouraged to immerse their idols here. NGO's are spreading awareness about environment-friendly Ganesha idols, and the idol makers are being encouraged to make the idols using paper pulp, which will be totally harmless for fish.

All we need to have is the determination to go green, along with preserving the sanctity of tradition.

Skywatch Friday

I finally captured the morning sky from the train minus the cables , after the 10 minute struggle ( see yesterday's photos) to get a sky photo without the cables.

Take Off

My attempt to capture a sky photo for Friday made me click all the way on my journey from Andheri to Navi Mumbai by train. I wanted a photo without all the cables.
These photos were taken near Santacruz and I captured this airplane take off.

I waited till my train reached Khar station, from where it moves up over the flyover and approaches  Bandra station. I finally got my Skywatch Friday photo over the flyover minus the cables.
